I left my home country of Iran at the age of 16 to move to the UK without speaking proper English. This was long before social media blurred global cultural boundaries, so I probably experienced one of the last true 'culture shocks'.

Now, 15 years later, if someone asks me where I'm from, I'm not sure how to answer that.

In that spirit, I sit down with friends and others to have conversations about identity, their past life and present time.

Listening to others might be a way to make any sense of my own experience.
